Reach Hunli, the midpoint settlement. Cross the dramatic Dibang suspension bridge high over roaring white water. Camp or stay in a basic guesthouse. Night sky here is extraordinary — zero light pollution, the Milky Way a vivid arch.
Final approach to Anini (5,900 ft) — each kilometre reveals bigger peaks, wilder rivers, deeper silence. Arrive at one of India's most remote district headquarters, surrounded by the Eastern Himalayan ranges on all sides. Check into local guesthouse or Idu Mishmi homestay. Afternoon walk through the small town — ITBP camp, a handful of shops, a helipad, and a skyline of snow peaks. Evening: sit with your Idu Mishmi host family, hear stories of the land.
A day to breathe in Anini's extraordinary atmosphere. Morning: guided walk to the Dibang River bank — fast glacial waters over boulders, the sound filling the entire valley. Fish for mahseer with your guide. Afternoon: trek to a viewpoint above Anini for a sweeping 360° panorama of unnamed snow peaks and the vast Dibang Valley. Visit the small Idu Mishmi community museum. Evening: bonfire and traditional Idu Mishmi music with your hosts under the Milky Way.
The return drive — same road, completely different experience. Morning light illuminates the gorge walls from the opposite direction; new waterfalls become visible. Lunch break at Hunli with a riverside picnic. Arrive back in Roing by evening. Dinner and rest after the most adventurous days of the trip.
Optional but strongly recommended extension. Drive to Miao — gateway to Namdapha National Park, India's third largest park and a UNESCO candidate. Morning: guided trek toward upper meadows above Mechuka — yak pastures, wildflowers, and close-up views of snow peaks on the Tibetan border. Afternoon: Siyom River camp — try trout fishing and enjoy a riverside picnic. Evening: night sky session — Mechuka's zero light pollution makes the Milky Way one of the most spectacular natural sights in northeast India.
Farewell morning walk to watch first light break over the Himalayan snowline above Mechuka. Return drive to Along; descent reveals new perspectives on the Siyom gorge. Arrive Along by evening. Warm Galo tribal dinner — pork with bamboo shoot, rice beer, and smoked fish from the Siang River.
